GALLERY AT GALLERIA

Spring/Summer 2016

The Umbrella That Traveled The World

An Art Exhibition at the Galleria of Edina.

May - August 2016

In 2014, Jill Emmer of Shine On Photos started a project on her Instagram (@Shineonyoucraydiamond) by mailing her beloved photography prop - a rainbow umbrella - to a fellow photographer friend. Soon after, more and more friends requested the umbrella.

The Spring 2016 gallery was created with art from this project! The gallery was located in the center of the mall (on a facade built in front of the new Free People store) and was displayed for three months.

We celebrated with a launch party on Thursday, May 19th.

People had a chance to use the umbrella for a photo, enjoy food from Crave, meet the numerous artists that attended and the sponsors, Tradition Companies. Attendees received free art and postcards. It was great fun!

What was at the exhibit:

The show was titled The Umbrella That Traveled The World and included:

A sampling of Jill Emmer's umbrella photos - see how it started!

A wall featuring over 20 traveling umbrella photos taken by photographers from all over the world including a several from here in Minnesota!

We also asked four of Minnesota’s most prolific artists to create large anchor pieces specifically for this show! Using their own styles and favorite medium, they are creating jumbo art pieces inspired by the traveling umbrella! Learn more about our four featured artists:

Drew Beson:  One of Edina's most popular professional artists. His beautiful abstract paintings filled with vibrant colors and bold movement have been featured all over the world, in model homes, upscale hotels and galleries.

Erin Sayer Minneapolis' well-known muralist and painter. One of two artists from Minnesota to paint the Bob Dylan mural in Minneapolis, she has also painted murals around the world including Oregon, California, Ireland and Italy.

Jennifer Davis: A Minneapolis-based artist known for imaginative paintings of surreal creatures and whimsical characters. Her work has been featured in places such as the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, the DeVos Art Museum, Soo Visual Arts Center and more.

Brandon Werth: A magical wedding and portrait artist and photographer from Minneapolis. Highly regarded as one of Minnesota's top photographers, his work has been featured in numerous local and national magazines. He also shoots for some of Minnesota's top brands.

And finally, the show will also feature fonts by Minneapolis' favorite Traveling Font Salesman, Chank Diesel and a wonderful handmade graphic by:

Shane Garron: An extremely talented artist who locals may recognize from his presence at Northern Grade. His bold minimalistic style is beloved by home designers everywhere.
